Tommi Stubbs, PT

Site Coordinator

Tomme StabbsTommi Stubbs is a physical therapist with OrthoTennessee. She received a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from the Medical College of Virginia.

Tommi has been a physical therapist since 1974 and says her main role in the clinic is administration and education.

“I became a physical therapist because I wanted to work with the public and thought physical therapy would be a very rewarding career,” Tommi says. “What I enjoy most about my job is patient interaction.”

In her spare time, Tommi enjoys walking and reading.

Tammy Burchfield, COTA

Tammy BurtchfieldTammy Burchfield is an occupational therapist assistant with OrthoTennessee. She attended the University of Tennessee for two years and received an associate’s degree in occupational therapy assistance from the Nashville State Technical Institute.

Tammy has been an occupational therapist assistant since 1993. After being a patient in high school, she decided occupational therapy was her career of choice.

She describes her role in the clinic with hand therapy as helping the patient to rehabilitate to her/his best potential as possible.

“I enjoy helping the patient return to normal life—a successful rehab!” Tammy says. “I also enjoy interaction with the doctors.”

In her spare time, Tammy enjoys working in her yard, spending time with family, camping and going to church.

Shane Fulmer, OTR/CHT

Shane FulmerShane Fulmer is the Director of Hand Therapy and an occupational therapist with OrthoTennessee. He received a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from Eastern Kentucky University, completed a hand therapy fellowship in Houston in 1998 and received the hand therapy certification in 1999.

An occupational therapist since 1992, Shane enjoys having the opportunity to improve the daily functioning of individuals in need.

“I like to meet new people, Shane says, “and my role is to assist in returning you to your prior level of functioning.”

In his spare time, Shane likes to be home with his family. He has two daughters, Madison, 10 and Sidney, seven.

Mary Beth Hodge, OT

Mary Beth HodgeMary Beth Hodge is an occupational therapist with OrthoTennessee. She attended the University of Tennessee, Martin and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis where she received a bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy. She became a certified hand therapist in 2002.

Mary Beth has been an occupational therapist since 1997. She describes her role in the clinic as an evaluator of new patients. She provides treatment based on problems identified in the evaluation.

“I became an occupational therapist because I wanted to work in a profession where I felt like I was helping people,” Mary Beth says. She says what she most enjoys about work is interacting with people.

In her spare, time Mary Beth enjoys playing with her son and traveling.

Michelle Kiles, PT

Michelle KilesMichelle Kiles is a physical therapist with OrthoTennessee. She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and a master’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Miami. She is a recipient of the Stephen J. Rose Research Award.

Michelle has been a physical therapist since 1996. She says her role in the clinic includes the evaluation and treatment of patients including educating the patient on ways to facilitate recovery. She is also responsible for managing the operations of the clinic.

“I became a physical therapist to work closely with people and facilitate their healing process,” Michelle says. “Interacting with people is the most enjoyable aspect of my work.”

In her spare time, she enjoys gardening, and hiking. She has her master gardening certification.

Chuck Korzybski, PTA

Chuck KorzybskiCharles “Chuck” Korzybski is a physical therapy assistant with OrthoTennessee. He received an associate’s degree in physical therapy assistance from South College in Knoxville.

Chuck has been a physical therapy assistant since 1999. He says his role in the clinic includes following the patient’s treatment plan and progressing her/him back to normal activities as quickly and safely as possible.

“I became a physical therapy assistant to help people,” Chuck says, “–especially those attempting to return to sports or athletics.”

In his spare time, he enjoys exercising, playing softball, and attending sporting events—especially football and baseball.

Lea Lyle, PT

Lea LyleLea Lyle is a physical therapist with OrthoTennessee. She received a bachelor’s degree in deaf interpreting and education from Maryville College and a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis.

Lea has been a physical therapist since 1986. She says her role in the clinic is to evaluate and treat orthopedic disorders. She supervises and teaches physical therapy students.

“I became a physical therapist because I had a desire to be involved with people on a personal level to help them achieve personal goals,” Lea says. “I also had an interest in anatomy and exercise.”

“In my work I most enjoy the relationships I develop with my patients and the pleasure of watching them achieve their physical goals,” Lea says. “I like helping them through a tough time.”

In her spare time, she enjoys church and bible study, exercise, reading and spending time with her family.

Andrea McDowell, PTA

Andrea McDowellAndrea McDowell is a physical therapy assistant with OrthoTennessee. She received an associate’s degree from Roane State Community College and is a licensed physical therapy assistant.

Andrea has been a physical therapy assistant since 2004. She describes her role in the clinic as carrying out treatment programs to get patients back to doing what they enjoy and improving their quality of life.

“I became a physical therapy assistant because I enjoy working with people and helping them through the recovery process,” Andrea says.

In her spare, time she enjoys spending time with her family. She is married and has two daughters and one stepson.

Cindy Shepherd, PT

Cindy ShepherdCynthia Shepherd is a physical therapist with OrthoTennessee. She received an associate’s degree, a bachelor’s degree in health science, and a master’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Kentucky.

Cynthia has been a physical therapist since July, 1999. She describes her role in the clinic as an educator, motivator, and helper. She became a physical therapist because of the physical and social aspects of the profession.

“Physical therapy encourages interaction with people and also permits me to be active during my workday,” Cynthia says. “I most enjoy patient education.”

In her spare time, Cynthia enjoys exercising, shooting skeet and archery, boating, and hiking with her husband and dog.

David WhaleyDavid Whaley is a physical therapy assistant with OrthoTennessee. He received an associate’s degree from Walters State Community College and is a licensed physical therapy assistant.

David has been a physical therapy assistant since 2001. He says his role in the clinic is to assist therapists in carrying out the plan of care for patients.

“I became a physical therapy assistant to help people return to activity, sports and recreation,” David says. “What I enjoy most about my work is helping people.”

In his spare time, David enjoys watching sports and hiking.
