J. Jay Crawford, M.D.
Pediatric & Adolescent Specialist
As a medical student, Dr. Jay Crawford knew that he was destined for a career as an orthopaedic surgeon because of his interests in sports, logic, problem-solving and biomechanics. After graduating from the United States Military Academy at West Point, Dr. Crawford earned his medical degree from Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville. Following medical school, he completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, where he was the Harrelson Award winner. Dr. Crawford then stayed on at Duke to complete a fellowship in pediatric orthopaedic surgery.
After serving for seven years at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio Texas, Dr. Crawford joined KOC in 2008 as a pediatric orthopaedic specialist. Dedicated to helping children overcome physical challenges, Dr. Crawford especially enjoys seeing the joy and relief in parents' eyes when their child?s problem is fixed. His special interests within his field include deformities of the extremities and spine, fractures in children and adolescents, minimally invasive advancements in surgery, and athletic injuries of the hip and knee.
A member of several professional medical societies, Dr. Crawford's affiliations include the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and the Piedmont Orthopaedic Society. Dr. Crawford has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals and is a national speaker on scoliosis and circular external fixation.
Dr. Crawford and his wife, Staci, a native Knoxvillian and Webb School alumnus, have three children. In his leisure time, Dr. Crawford enjoys spending time with his wife and children at home, school, sports, church, and community activities. He also likes to golf and is involved with service organizations at East Tennessee Children's Hospital.
