Arthritis and Joint Replacement Specialist

Dr. Covino joined KOC in 1993 upon completion of a fellowship in joint replacement and adult reconstructive surgery at The Cleveland Clinic Foundation. He is a graduate of Harvard University and Georgetown University School of Medicine. Dr. Covino received his orthopedic surgery training at The University of Virginia Health Sciences Center. He is an active member of the medical staff at St. Mary’s Medical Center and has been instrumental in developing and refining the joint replacement program at the hospital.

Dr. Covino has more than 10 years of practice experience and has performed over one thousand joint replacement procedures. His specialty practice keeps him current with the latest surgical techniques and advances in joint replacement surgery that promise to increase the longevity of joint implants. Dr. Covino works closely with orthopedic implant industry leaders in the improvement and development of joint replacement systems.

Dr. Covino is dedicated to providing the highest level of total patient care – from diagnosis through recovery – making it a comfortable experience for both patients and their families. He uses a unique team approach in caring for the joint replacement patient. The team includes Ms. Tami Anderson, and Mr. Robert Hawkins. Ms. Anderson is a registered nurse with 20 years of orthopedic nursing experience, and Mr. Hawkins is a certified nurse practitioner and orthopedic physician’s assistant. They will discuss your overall health care issues prior to treatment and will educate you on what to expect from each of your options. The team works exclusively with joint replacement patients and will be available before, during, and after surgery to provide the highest quality and continuity of specialized care.

Dr. Covino was born in Buffalo, New York and raised in Massachusetts. He is actively involved with youth sports in Knoxville including his duties as a coach with The Knoxville Amateur Hockey Association. He also continues to participate in playing hockey with Knoxville area adult teams. He and his family also enjoy water sports and golf.
